Your guides start by unloading the scooters at the end of the road, we need them to interpret the last 10 km into the mountain world. The terrain feels powerful and depending on the weather we choose between Himmelsraften or Mjölkvattsfjället. Of course, being in an area where only the guide's satellite phone has coverage feels a little extra exciting. Expect about 750-1500 altitude meters per day, this is for those who have tried the top tour for a few years and may even have their own equipment.
We'll be back in the village by afternoon/evening.

Ski tour of Jämtland with overnight stay
An adventure with skiing in two nature reserves. Here the experience of the pristine Jämtland mountains is maxed out in combination with good food at historic mountain hotels. We travel early from Åre and after about 1.5h in a car we reach fjällexpressen, our help the last kilometers up to the foot of the mountain.
When the trail skins are on, a full day awaits in skäckerfjällen nature reserve. Here the two guides choose runs and peaks according to the current weather. After the tour we go shuttle back to Kolåsens Fjällhotell where Annika and Micke receive us with a warm hand. Here the food is prepared from scratch using its own local and organic ingredients. They have their own pigs, sheep and chickens and in the mountain garden they have grown everything from root vegetables to their own tomatoes. The feeling of putting ham from the farm pig on the breakfast sandwich is difficult to describe in words. Before dinner there is the possibility of a sauna and we sleep well at the historic hotel which has miles of views of Skäckerfjällen Nature Reserve.
After breakfast, another top-of-the-table adventure awaits just 40 minutes away. What do our customers say?
FAQ and more information
What is included on a ski tour in Åre?
Both on the top tour half day and on the top tour (full day) Storulvån includes guide, avalanche equipment and ski equipment from Salomon. Packed lunches for 150 kr are available for purchase.
What kind of clothes do you have?
Clothes after the weather is a classic expression. The basic rule is to think the same as for regular skiing but to keep in mind that you get extra hot when you go upright. Layer-on-layer principle is a great tip where you can vary body heat by taking off or putting on multiple layers. A heat garment for the coffee break is recommended. A buff that protects the face from wind is also good to have.
Where do we gather?
We gather at Åreguiderna Guide Office on the east side of Åre Torg. During the high season weeks 9, 10 and 13, ski touring half day may need to start in Björnen (at åreguiderna snowmobile base).
Under the current conditions, no transport is included. Storulvån is about 40 minutes by car west of Åre. Getting there requires your own car or taxi.
Is top tour equipment included?
All our top tours include testing Salomon' latest tour equipment.
If you want to borrow equipment, we see that you will come by Årorg the afternoon before and test the size of boots etc. Avalanche equipment (shovel, probe, transiver and backpack) is also included.
