Our half-day tours take place on Åreskutan, while our full-day tours can be in Storulvån, Skäckerfjällen, Mjölkvattnet or any other of Jämtland’s beautiful peaks. This is a perfect activity for those who want to go ski touring in Åre. Åreskutan is a fantastic mountain and with ski touring skis on your feet, there is plenty to discover and see. We start with the lifts in central Åre and then strap on skins and get away from the slopes under our own power. We finish with a nice ski ride back down to the village. Usually we have time for two shorter runs or one slightly longer run.

A full day you’ll never forget! Our guides will take you on exciting skiing in untouched terrain around Storulvån Mountain Station. During a day we have about 1-2 peaks depending on the weather, wind and energy. During the day we stop for lunch out on the mountain. We gather at Åreguiderna’s office at Åre square and check equipment before we jump into our cars and drive about 45 minutes to Storulvån’s magnificent nature. We are back in the village just in time for the beer to be chilled and the après-ski to open.

Together with our experienced guides, you’ll have the opportunity to explore some of the region’s most spectacular mountain areas—always adapted to the day’s conditions. The day before the tour, your guide selects the destination based on weather, snow, and safety considerations, ensuring the best possible experience.
Possible destinations include: Skäckerfjällen, Mullfjället, Snasahögarna, Ottfjället, Bydalen, and Sundsvalen.
We meet the day before the tour at our office in Åre to go through the plan and make sure everyone is fully prepared (a digital meeting is also possible).

This is your next big adventure! We leave Åre village early in the morning and pack the cars with ski and avalanche equipment, and of course gofika and lunch. A thermos with morning coffee sits well during the drive there. After about 1.5 hours we have come as far as we can get by car. Now awaits snowmobile interpretation and a full day in Jämtland’s best ski touring terrain You need to have tried ski touring before and maybe even have your own equipment. Salomon’s ski touring equipment is of course available to borrow.

An adventure with skiing in two nature reserves. Here the experience of the pristine Jämtland mountains is maxed out in combination with good food at historic mountain hotels. We travel early from Åre and after about 1.5h in a car we reach fjällexpressen, our help the last kilometers up to the foot of the mountain.

What is included on a ski tour in Åre?
Both on the top tour half day and on the top tour (full day) Storulvån includes guide, avalanche equipment and ski equipment from Salomon. Packed lunches for 150 kr are available for purchase. On a half-day ski tour, a lift pass is added. The easiest way to buy it is on Skistar’s website
What kind of clothes do you have?
Clothes after the weather is a classic expression. The basic rule is to think the same as for regular skiing but to keep in mind that you get extra hot when you go upright. Layer-on-layer principle is a great tip where you can vary body heat by taking off or putting on multiple layers. A heat garment for the coffee break is recommended. A buff that protects the face from wind is also good to have.
Where do we gather?
We gather at Åreguiderna east side of Åre Square. If you are not within walking distance, we recommend the ski bus to the cable car and from there about 5min walk.
If you have booked your own Åre guide, it is possible to meet at another location by agreement.
Transport?
Under the current conditions, no transport is included. Storulvån is about 40 minutes by car west of Åre. Getting there requires your own car or taxi.
Is top tour equipment included?
All our ski touring includes testing Salomon’s latest ski touring equipment.
If you want to borrow equipment, we see that you will come by Årorg the afternoon before and test the size of boots etc. Avalanche equipment (shovel, probe, transiver and backpack) is also included.
